Frequently Asked Questions

What are the impliactiosn of Part L 2010 ?

Part L changes come into force from the 1st of October 2010. Effectively all new projects in Wales need to achieve a minimum 31% improvement over the current standards  In England this figure is a 25% improvement. These improvements will clearly need a radical rethink in building methodology, thermal performance, ventilation and heating methods. This is just one of 10 key changes that will affect us all - attached is a summary of the other key changes that will have an impact.

What are the implications of the Code for Sustainable Homes ?

The Code for Sustainable Homes comes into effect for ‘all new dwellings’ submitted to planning after the 1st September 2010. This means that even a single dwelling must have a CSH assessment that will reach at least level 3 (31% in Wales/ 25% in England) when applying for planning. An integral part of the CSH works is related to the Part L and energy demands of the property so it is imperative that these issues are addressed very early on in the project in order to compile a suitable design and specification that will meet these new standards.

What is SBEM?

The Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) is the calculation tool used to predict carbon emissions in non-domestic buildings.
